In an abundance of caution…

Friends due to the surge in Covid-19 and hospitalizations, and in a continued abundance of caution, Twain’s will remain closed. We have been very fortunate that our staff is healthy and we will reopen as soon as we are comfortable doing so. These are very difficult times in our industry, and we are balancing many factors in making these decisions. We expect to reopen with an invigorated focus on providing you, our customers, the best we have to give, Twain’s food, beer and love.
We hope that you and yours stay safe and healthy during this complicated time.

Twain’s & Corona Virus

Friends, Family and Patrons,

Twain’s will be closing operations for the foreseeable future to protect you, our staff and the greater population from COVID19. This is the most difficult decision we have ever made, but it is one that we feel is necessary for the common good, and to ensure our ability to eat, drink and laugh about it in the future at Twain’s.

We have always felt blessed to be a part of Decatur’s community and we hope that this crisis is shortened to a minimum and that is why we are doing this.

Thank you for all of your support, it has been nearly 25 years and we plan to come back soon to celebrate that milestone.

ABOVE ALL…please stay healthy…listen to the experts and stay home. The welfare of our community is at stake and you are the most important piece. Be well, and take care of each other (at a safe distance). It will take many more sacrifices by each of us to get to the end of this crisis safely. We look forward to raising a glass at that time.

Thank you again.

Twain’s Winter Lager

Czech Dark Lager. This rich and fulfilling dark lager delivers on elements of a Munich Dunkel (think Autumn Is Coming from 2019) but with a bit more richness and mild chocolate character from the darker malts used. Delicious! 4.5% abv

Mad Happy v9.0

6.4% abv Our flagship IPA is back and fresh as can be. Hops from 4 continents come together to make for a tropical, citrus & complex hop flavor

Construction at Twain’s

Phase 1 is done!  We have new bathrooms!

Phase 2 is done! We have a new patio!!

Phase 3 is almost done!

Twain’s has been fortunate to evolve with Decatur over the past 22 years, and we’re ready to take the next step in that evolution this summer!

We are going to be completely rebuilding our patio, including all new seating and tables as well.   We’ll be adding some architectural elements to the exterior to help make the building stand out and adding some greenery back as well. While we are working on the patio we will also be doing some updating inside including giving our bathrooms a much needed upgrade, as well as new windows as well some more cosmetic updates to our interior!

Spring Forward Marzen Lager

5.9% ABV 21 IBUs Tasting Notes: Toasty malt, baking bread and pale bread crust; hint of floral hops to round out the beer. Ourspring edition of our “Alternative Facts Series”, this golden Marzen is the perfect beer to hasten that spring feeling. The beer is malty but well balanced, clean and dry on the finish. We took our popular Oktoberfest recipe and lighten the malt and raised the continental hops to make this more warm weather friendly. Prost!

IQ Booster West Coast IPA

Notes: Grapefruit, Meyer lemon zest, baking bread, firm bitterness

While everyone else is on the “New England Style” IPA train, we’re full believers in the “San Diego Style” IPA. Good clarity and no evidence of “juice” anywhere near this beer; it’s a true hop-head’s kind of beer..

ABV 7.3% IBUs 90

Cereal Keller Kellerbier

This kellerbier is an unfiltered, unlagered American take on a Pilsner. The nose is slightly citrusy and lemony from the American hops; spicy and a touch floral due to the Continental hops. The malt is grainy and a bit doughy from a mix of pilsner malt, red wheat and oat malt. The body is light and crisp with a dry, refreshing bite on the finish. Highly drinkable. Collaboration with Todd DiMatteo from Good Word Brewing. 5.4% ABV

Barleywine Paradiso

Barleywine Paradiso, 8.8%

Unexpectedly, this barleywine is quite approachable. The complexity of the beer brings forth flavors of ripe pomme fruit, fig and date with rich caramel to complement. Despite this, the finish is moderately dry preventing it from becoming cloyingly sweet.

Sam’s Smoked Porter

Sam’s Smoked Porter, 6.4%

Think about Barbeque: rich, dense smoke with a bit of ashy, charred bark and a sweet full finish. Give this beer about a half pint before you decide whether you like it or not. Trust me, as you keep drinking it, you’ll grow more and more fond of it!

Crisp Cross Pale Ale

This single hop British Pale Ale features all British malts and the unique UK Brambling Cross Hops.  After fermentation, this pale ale was cold conditioned for a month to give it an extra crisp finish.  This Daddy Mac will make you jump, jump!! “..make you jump, jump” Mark Twain (maybe, I have no proof, but he probably did)

4.8% ABV

Last Twain’s Tuesday Jazz Jam – August 12th

After more than 6 years as an Atlanta jazz institution, Joe Gransden’s Tuesday Jazz Jam will be wrapping up its run at Twain’s on August 12th.  Live music has always been tricky at Twain’s with our concrete structure and lack of a dedicated music room, and we’re removing the stage in order to add dining space.  It’s been wonderful to work with Joe to build such a dynamic weekly jazz experience during the past several years, and we look forward to the Jazz Jam finding a new weekly home shortly.

Lil’ Hopskull’s Big IPA

Hophead’s delight! Our 555th batch is a big bold double IPA that packs a punch of flavor and hop aroma.  Hops include Zythos, Falconer’s Flight, and Nelson Sauvin and present citrus, mango, passion fruit, and subtle piney spice.  8.2% ABV

Galactic Criminal Sin wins at ACAT!

Galactic Criminal Sin wins at ACAT!

On Saturday, our Galactic Criminal Sin IPA took the blue ribbon in the classic cask ale category at ACAT!  Going head to head with so many great breweries from around the country and coming out with that ribbon is quite an honor.  ACAT is always a special festival, and this year’s (the 10th!) was especially exciting, with the edition of several UK breweries’ casks available to enjoy.  Thanks to Owen and co. for making it happen, and congrats to the other winners who took home ribbons.

Big Congratulations to Chase and Brad!  Look for a chance to try this winning cask soon at the home-field bar, and don’t delay in getting down here to have some of the wonderful straight-up cold, carbonated variety of Criminal Sin next chance you get!

South by Midwest Wheat IPA

A Twain’s and New Holland Collaboration Ale

SXMW Wheat IPA is a beautiful ale brewed with our friends from New Holland Brewing Co. in Michigan.   Brewed with specialty Michigan malted wheat  and  honey, Georgia honey and lots of hops.  SXMW beckons with hops and orange in the nose.  Lightly sweet at first yielding to citrus with a hint of honey, dry yet pithtrusy in finish.  Yeah we just said that, pithtrusy.

Peche Ryeson

A small quantity of our Twain’s/Three Taverns collaboration ale that has been blended with a touch of peaches.  Not overly fruity, just giving off a hint of the peach, this Saison style ale maintains its bold flavor and peppery characters.  8% ABV.

Autumnfest Ale

Fall-time easy drinking…

Inspired by the Oktoberfest style, Twain’s Autumnfest Ale features German malt and hops.  It has delicious maltiness and finishes with a light spice from the hops.  4.8% ABV

hbc2013HOMEBREW CHALLENGE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.

IT HAS BEEN GIVEN THE PROVERBIAL HOOK, SHUT-DOWN, SQUASHED.

Twain’s was instructed by the DOR to halt this competition.  We will look into the issues that make it illegal, and see if with the effective date of 7/1/13 for HB99, there is any way to legally have it go forward.

Thanks to all you home-brewers who planned to enter the challenge, keep brewing!

Cheers,
Twain’s

Steady Job Coffee Porter

What do you get when you combine friends who love coffee and beer?  Delicious!  That’s what.  Deep dark brown with a beautiful tan head.  A nose of deep roast from coffee and malts and hints of hops.  Coffee is ever-present and bright, with a backbone of dark ale.  This one may keep you up pondering life and the wonderful confluence of events.  Big thanks to Jordan and Dale of Steady Hand Pour House, they brew some stellar coffee.

Connecticut-Yankee Red

This American Red pours a coppery color with a light tan head.  Featuring Mosaic, Citra and New Zealand Motueka hops that are balanced with nice caramel and malt notes.  5.0% ABV

“When red-headed people are above a certain social grade their hair is auburn.”  M. Twain

Self Determination Belg-IPA

This IPA followed its own path during an unpredictable fermentation, inheriting Belgian-style characteristics.  Floral aroma with hints of Belgian esters.  American West Coast hops shine through with citrus and spicy notes.  Finishes with a smooth bitterness. 5.7% ABV

Smoke on the Messipi Nut Brown Ale

A malt lovers ale, highlighted by a toasted nutty flavor and light smoke.  Notes of sweet toffee and caramel, with sublte roast and coffee undertones.  6.3% ABV.

“Now and then we had a hope that if we lived and were good, God would permit us to be pirates.”  M. Twain
